TKD Contract????
I signed a TKD Contract 2 years ago, (the Black Belt Cub Contract). I was under the understanding that my Master said it would go to Black Belt or to the end of contract. (that is what he told me) I got my Black Belt, then I stopped going and did a stop payment. I then went to my master and told him I was done for injury sakes. He tells me we are done, it is now 4 months later and I am still getting harassed by the contract agency. Is there anything I can do?
What they usually do is sell you a finance contract. After that, the contract is sold to a finance company. Your school already got paid their end, which is usually 60-70% of the contract. Prince is absolutely correct. You are most likely dealing with a third party now, a collection agency. In other words, the topic is most likely out of the school’s hands now. Try to get as much as you can for the money.
Some states require that stipulations are put into the contract if you should move, or the club goes out of business. But, it reads like you are past that point now. My advice would be to call the collection agency and try to reach a settlement. They usually pay about 10 cents on the dollar for an account that is already past due. You can offer half what they say you owe and maybe they will go for it.
One thing- Don’t pay a penny before you get an agreement in writing. Do not give them your credit card or any other account numbers over the phone. When and if you do pay, consider a money order with a tracking number. If you do not pay they most likely will put it on your credit report. After that the contract can be resold to other collections agencies every year. The finance contract is a tactic that most genuine clubs despise. Sorry, that you had to learn the hard way. But, its probably best to pay it off and retain your credit rating.
