How ofter should i change the cam belt?
I have a ford fiesta quartz diesel 85,000 miles i was told that if the cam belt snapper it would damage the engine.
I does depend on the model year, as I think that the change interval increased over the years.
At any rate, the interval for changing the timing belt on the 2001 1.8lt Ford turbo diesel engine is at 100,000 miles.
When you change the belt have the tensioner checked and/or replaced. The tensioner is a wear item, and failure of the tensioner can lead to timing belt failure.
I suspect that this engine is what’s known as an interference engine, which means that if it goes out of timing due to a timing belt failure the pistons and the valves will collide causing damage to both.
