Which of the following would you build your franchise around?
Just thinking about the top young players in the league got me wondering who was the best, in terms of building a franchise around. Who, of the following, would you have to build your team around:
1) Hanley Ramirez
2) Ryan Braun
3) Evan Longoria
If you want to add in a player, that’s fine, just make sure he’s under 25.

Hanley Ramirez, 100%. Braun strikes out some, and isn’t very good defensively and isn’t a base stealer. Longoria is a great hitter and not bad at third, but again not a base stealer. Hanley is to my thinking the best all around player in the game today. Here’s why:
He plays SS, the most important defensive position (maybe outside of catching), and is a tremendous SS, he hits for power and steals bases.
However, here is a sleeper pick—Elvis Andrews of the Texas Rangers. I’ve watched baseball for over 25 years and I’ve only seen one young SS as good defensively as Elvis, that was Ozzie Smith. This kid is 20 and has great range and a cannon for a throwing arm. He is already a good baserunner/basestealer. His frame suggests he may be able to later hit 15-20 HR’s. He is just not as polished as Hanley. I am at times amazed at how good he is at 20 years old.
