carbon filter?
How do you use a whisper carbon filter? I have a 5 gal tank with a filter that came with it. Do you just take out entire filter and put a new one in? I have heard that you keep the white meshy stuff just open the meshy and replace with fresh carbon from another filter bag. I am so confused. My tank is not cycled yet I have only had it for 2 months
2 months is a long time to cycle a 5 gallon tank.

You don’t change the filter media, you rinse it in old tank water when you do a water change. Every 6-8 weeks you remove a portion of it and replace with new.
The filter media is where the bacteria live, if you throw the media away you’re also throwing away the bacteria that you’ve spent the last 2 months trying to colonize.
I’ve never used that filter before, but if you go to the store where you bought it and ask them to demonstrate it, I’m sure they’ll be happy to.
