Chainsaw Oil In Car Transmission…Am I Doomed?
Hi Everyone,
My mother has a 1999 Dodge Caravan. She was going to top up her transmission fluid as she has a small leak. Somehow, by mistake (actually, the bottles look exactly the same) she grabbed the bottle of chainsaw lubricating oil. She started to pour it into the transmission fluid receptacle. She put in, as she put it “two glugs” and then realized it was chainsaw lubricating oil and not transmission fluid.
She came into the house in a panic saying she thinks she wrecked her van. I have been researching online and I can’t find anything to tell me one way or the other whether or not this will hurt the transmission or not.
Can someone please tell me if this will just burn off on its own without doing any harm or does she need to get her transmission flushed out immediately? We cannot afford to have to replace a transmission so I am hoping this will not cause any harm.
Any information that anyone can provide would be very greatly appreciated.

wow thats a funny story, chainsaw bar and chain fluid is just regular SAE-30 motor oil with red die put in it so you can visually see that your lubricationg the sprocket on the chainsaw. i dont know what tranny fluid consinsts of but if its a lubricant you aught to just drain it and refill with regualr ATF…
