Grass needs to be cut, lawn mower has been sitting all winter…?
Hey there everyone,
Since it’s FINALLY spring up here in Detroit, it’s time to do some grass cutting in my yard. This is my 2nd year as a homeowner, so I have a question…
My lawn mower has been sitting all winter in my garage, it’s been about 6 months since it has been used (yep, Michigan winters are that long! 6 months of winter, 6 months of road construction lol). Is there anything that I need to do before I use it again this season? Besides the obvious, checking the oil and gas levels?

Yes, a little gas was sitting in it all winter, and some oil. I got really sick at the end of fall, and wasn’t able to tend to it. From some of the other questions I’ve seen on here, in that case, it sounds like a lot more needs to be done.
Be sure to put some fresh gas in the tank. Leaving gas in the tank leads to carb clogging. I always run the mower til it’s out of gas, that way I avoid the varnish build up. Check your air filter. Hard starting is usually a result of a dirty filter. Sharpen your blade or buy a new one. A dull blade pulls the grass out of the ground rather than cutting it. And change the oil, and filter if you have one.
