What is Echo Cancellation Software?

While all echo canceling technologies operate under the same premise, depending on the system there are various degrees of sophistication of this feature.

Very briefly, here are the nuts and bolts of how noise reduction comes about:

Using a mixture of noise canceling hardware and software, a replica or copy of the incoming noise is made. Then electronic circuitry generates a sound wave that is equal but opposite to the original. Since the replicated sound wave is identical in terms of frequency and amplitude, it is able to negate or cancel the noise coming in from outside. To express the same thing in more technical jargon, the generated sound wave is 180 degrees out of phase from the incoming sound. And while all this occurs under the surface and unbeknownst to the user, the end result is that your devices produce audible, clean sound.

What is considered good sound quality? The first feature is crystal clear sound which sits comfortably in your ear. The sound should be balanced, meaning the lows are not too low, you can hear detail in the middle range, and the highs are not harsh or screechy

A fact little known to most people is that one of the most common applications of this technology today is in the everyday use of noise canceling headphones, which are also one of the hottest ticket items currently sold in the industry. They are most effective in preventing noise infiltration when traveling on a bus or subway or in other noisy or crowded environments. Most airlines now supply noise canceling headphones to their first-class or business passengers which help to block out engine and cabin noise. The next time you are in the market for a new set of headphones or ear buds, check the quieting level indicated on the package, which should be at minimum 17 decibels (dB). Finally, keep in mind that a rechargeable battery is required to power up these modern-day devices; however most headphones will play for hours on end before they need to be recharged.
