Should I get an Electric or Acoustic guitar?
I am a beginner to guitar. My Church is offering free guitar lessons, however, if you take them, they want you to perform in the choir, which I am ok with. I am trying to decide on whether to get an acoustic guitar starter kit, or an electric starter kit. When at church, I will probably play softer stuff that is more suited for acoustic, but when at home, I will prefer playing stuff fit for the electric. I have some trouble pressing the strings on an acoustic, and I heard that electric strings are easier. The people at Church said that it is really up to me, but with an electric guitar, it is more to deal with (amp, etc.).
Note: We already know about the cost. Neither one breaks our budget.

It is somewhat true that an acoustic guitar is harder to play than an electric one. However, this can be evened out by using light strings on the acoustic and having it set up (adjusted) correctly. If you want to, you can read a little more about that subject on the site below. In any case, a properly adjusted acoustic steel string is just as easy to play as most electric guitars around.
Then you have the portability issue and all the extra stuff that goes with an electric: Amp, leads, tuner, batteries, any effects and so on. If you have it all in one place it is no big deal. When you start to lug it back and forth, the picture quickly changes.
Yes, you can perhaps play the “electric stuff” more readily on an electric guitar with an amp. However, you can play almost any kind of music on an electric steel string guitar.
My suggestion is to aim for an acoustic electric guitar. This is a regular acoustic guitar with an under saddle pickup built in. Many of these guitars also come with a tuner built in… With an acoustic electric, you can play it as a regular acoustic when you want and then plug it into an amp or a PA system to “rock out” or play with more volume when needed. If you’re going to play with the choir or a band with other instruments at your church, then a purely acoustic guitar would likely not have sufficient volume any how.
