Get the Garden Planned And Ready To Go
After you decide that you want a garden, your primary choice is to pick the right spot. You could be limited to having a small container garden if space is at a premium. Ideally, you want your garden to obtain sunlight from the south so be sure to look for a spot that meets that requirement. Stay away from positioning your garden where it’s going to receive exposure from the north unless it is your only option because this will severely hamper a success of your garden.
With the southern location, where the sun sits warm all day, you need to run the rows of vegetables north and south. Doing the work this way will allow the morning sun’s rays to get to the eastern side of the plants, and in the afternoon, the western side. Having an arrangement of this nature, you shouldn’t have any lopsided plants. If the garden faces southeast, then the western sun fades out of the problem, and you need to organize your rows northwest and southwest to get the best distribution of sunlight.
Your aim is to equally devote the available sunshine for as long as you can. Seeing a window plant having lopsided growth is an example of what happens to a plant when the light is not evenly distributed. When you know the place you will place your garden, sketch out a drawing of the spot where you want each plant to go. When you first start your garden the ground will most likely be, either covered with rubbish or with sod. If your garden will be in a large space, you will want to plow the ground to turn the sod under; if your garden is going to be in a little space, it is possible to just get rid of the sod.
The grass may be taken and put into a pile to rot as a compost pile, to be used as fertilizer. You can contribute vegetable waste products to your compost pile during the summer and autumn leaves during the fall. After that you can make use of this compost as fertilizer for your back garden the next year. Your garden spot should be plowed under sufficiently so there aren’t any large clumps. The spade can rotate the ground in the first place, but it will leave too many clumps. Using the hoe will help to break up any remaining clumps and get rid of the weeds. When you use the spade you’re required to work hard, but when it’s time to do work with the hoe and the rake you need to take a gentler approach. When you find yourself done with the hoe, grab the rake and smooth out the other area. Upon having all this done, you are prepared to start planting the seeds.
