I have a hayward super pump that makes a buzzing sound….?
Ok so im a new pool owner… i had the local pool company come out and they replaced my impeller a few weeks ago… then i come home one day and my pool isn’t going. i go down to the pool housing and see that the motor is hot and not going. i turn it off and back on and it makes a buzzing then stops… nothing comes on. so i figure the motor has gone out…. i order a new motor and installed that tonight…. and i get the same buzzing! i havent even got to get in the pool once!!! this is getting quite frustrating. i know i installed it correctly… and yes i did fill it up with water before starting it. Why is it making that same buzzing sound? everything has been replaced…. can anyone help? thanks so much! Any help or ideas are appreciated.
I had an electrician come out and test that everything was properly wired and checked breakers and that all voltage was coming through right. And it is all perfect. I dont know what else to check. Any help?
I am guessing that 1) both pump and motor were replaced as a unit, and 2) the motor is a 220 volt motor. There is a possibility that either the motor is wired wrong, or one leg of the 220 volts is bad. Here’s what I mean, some of the Hayward’s can be wired for 110 volts or 220 by changing a jumper at the back where it’s wired. And I have see a few that were just wired wrong even by experienced mechanics. If this is the case, it would hum and not work properly. If it did work it would eventually overheat and burn out a winding. On the other hand, it could be a bad leg from the supply. Normal house wiring is 110. A 110 volt supply and a neutral. For 220 there are two 110 legs and no neutral. If one leg is dead, this could cause the same condition. Check voltage from each leg to the ground wire. If good, recheck the hook up and jumper. If that’s all good, you need to get a pro in for help. Good luck and be careful
