Dead exterior light/ lamp fixture?
this outdoors lamp/ light fixture has never worked in the 10 years i’ve owned the home (yes, i know about light bulbs and circuit breakers). i just bought a brand new fixture and still nothing. everything else on the breaker works. The voltage snooper doesn’t beep. the switch works. i don’t see a junction box anywhere. the light is wired in parallel to another exterior light that does work. house is wired in emt conduit. what to do? thanks.
If the non working light is wired to the working light, chances are that one of the wirenuts has been tightened so much that it cracked the wire, and lost connection. I would TURN OFF CIRCUIT BREAKER, then remove every wirenut, one at a time, and check that the wire is still intact. If some gorilla decides to make the wire nut so tight, often the wire snaps a couple months later. Start where the working light connects to the nonworking light and follow the circuit from there.
If you still don’t find it, use your ohmmeter and ring out the dead light circuit. It must be a broken wire somewhere, and very unlikely that the wiring breaks inside the conduit. Good luck!
