Weird phobias with ceiling fans?
Despite all hopes of outgrowing them, I’ve never quite outgrown my worst fears:
1. Fear of all things that dangle – pretty lamps, strings on ceiling fans, porch swings, etc.
2. Fear of “wavy” water, or in other words, if it moves too much.
3. Fear of ceiling fans. I’m not afraid of them falling, but the noise, speed, circular-motion, dangly strings, and shadows they create scare the hell out of me.
Can anyone make sense of these for me? Better yet, has you anyone you know experienced these fears? What “treatment” can I seek?
I’d hate to think I’m the only one.

I tried to find this exact fear but didn’t…has to be some kind of anxiety based fear..I wonder what might have happen when you were very young…
I didn’t used to be that way, but became that way…I don’t like swinging things over head, like giant signs suspended in a store..but, I know why, I was stuck in a Walmart once during an earthquake and the suspended signs were rocking back and forth and these were heavy and large enough to kill you if the chains broke off and you got hit on the head. When I had treatment for anxiety …I stopped feeling that way.
Now, for my true ceiling fan story! Ceiling fans, never bothered me till … It was on full force, my grand-kids would not be quiet, for the 4th time I came in the room to ball them out, I stepped up quickly on a foot stool to get my point across to the kid on the top bunk and whack! I screamed, grabbed my face, turned on the light, blood seeping through my fingers, I was kinda stunned, I didn’t want to take my hand off my eye area..then I did, the fan had cut my eyelid!! I was so so lucky not to be blind, the fan blade even knocked my contact lens out of one eye!! I also got a black eye from it. These kids for once where quiet after that! After that there was a while where the idea of decapitation would creep into my head…when I walked through places like Home Depot lighting section..that still creeps me out..but I know why and so that helps me understand the anxiety or fear.
