How can I control my Saint Bernard when I walk him?
I have a 200 pound Saint Bernard dog and I love him to death. Unfortunately, he is a lot stronger than me and I can’t walk him anymore because he gets out of control. I’m only 14 and so I can’t really control him by using all my strength. He has dragged me across streets, lawns, rocks and really painful surfaces to chase people and dogs. He is such a sweet dog though, and he would never hurt a fly on purpose. I need a trick or something to walk him and get him under control when he sees something he wants to chase. If i can’t figure out a way walk him and keep him under control, i won’t be able to walk him anymore. That’s not very fair to him. Please, Please, Please, Please help me if you can! I love hi to death!

I tackled this very same issue and tried and failed many a time. But have finally hit a solution.
A harness is the way forward, it’s not painful to the dog and allows you to have 3x the control. This is a great way to tackle this, one tug on the lead will bring him backwards (with no pain), an occasional tug should help him to understand who is boss.
Dogs love treats, hold a treat (something that he likes upon your chest) and walk, he will keep attention on the item and hopefully will not be distracted. Whilst walking repeat the words ‘Heel’ or something similar, so he learns that that command is to stay by your side. It takes practice but in time it will be a success. If the Dog tries to lunge for the treat give him a tug on the lead to notify that that was wrong, and resume your training.
