an inexpensive wet sump for a 300 gallon salt tank?
need expierenced salt tank people to answer,please.i want to build it,not buy it.i have the mag drive pump already.have seen all the diy sites.these are great if you have 10-200 gallon tank.i could buy a 55-75 gl.tank and drill it but have thought about a 55 gl trash can with 2 overflow boxes.i am open for all discussion of good and bad and am willing to talk live with any expierenced diy folks.thanks
If you are using a mag drive then there is no need to drill the sump, as that pump is internal. Drilling of a sump is only required if you have an External only pump. The question is how will you get the water from the tank to the sump/ if it has built in overflows than no drilling. You could use overflow boxs, if no built ins. I would not use a trash can for a sump. a 55 or 75 gal tank would be best.
Sumps become great places to grow out frags or to keep aggressive fish in. It would be hard to do these in a trash can, not to mention there is some talk starting about how trash cans can start to leak toxins into the water.
There is NEW info on the rubbermaid cans. That they are leaching, and will get worse as they get older
