mcculloch pro mac 605 bar oil leak?
I bought myself an old mcculloch pro mac 605 chainsaw, which run excellent except oil runs everywhere when you are cutting, it gets all over the exhaust and smokes, drips out the bottom, all over the brake. I adjusted the automatic oiler all the way in and it still puts out too much oil, but the bar itself doesnt seem to be getting enough, i checked all the ports in the bar and they are free of debris.. any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks
renpen might have hit the nail on the head here. However, something more simple could be your problem. You gave some great clues. Oil poring out only when you run the saw. This tells me the pump is functioning. The simple answer (I might be wrong), is to remove the bar and clean the two small holes in the sides of the bar. These holes transfer the oil to the bar and often get blocked with debris, thus, the oil cannot enter the bar runner and the pressure sprays oil everywhere except where you need it. You MUST use compressed air, as the ports, though look free and clean have a small transfer ridge that can become blocked.
