Which Is A Better Choice – Authority Sites Or Minisites?
The continuing question regarding authority sites or mini sites may be diminishing in relevance in certain marketing circles. Search engines understandably want to provide solid and good content to the people who represent their customer base. (Even though Google’s massive profits are mainly derived by pay per click advertising.) With that said, we do realize that an online marketer will choose the model they think will be in their best interests. We would not suggest, or recommend, that anybody base their entire business model on mini sites alone. On the other hand, promoting an authority website, or blog, will give the owner more freedoms and flexibility. It is just that the minisite requires one to be a little more creative with their promotional efforts.
If you want to build an authority site, you will need to be patient for the glorious results you have heard so much about. The time will vary depending on which niche you’ve chosen and the level of competition you’re up against. If you’re willing to put in the effort, you should find you’re able to compete even with sites in a really crowded niche. You’ll find it much easier if you steer away from the single-word keywords and aim at long-tail keywords instead, as well as creating backlinks that lead visitors to the inner pages of your site. The result should be an improvement in your site’s rank for those defined keyword phrases. However, don’t expect those results immediately, as they do take time. It’s generally understood by many Internet marketers that there are plenty of good reasons to create authority websites. It just seems to be the trend that is being forced by Google. But there are also plenty of other benefits for the bigger sites with regards to marketing as well as SEO. The larger sites allow more scope for creating backlinks, which makes it easier to rank well. Also think that you will eventually get voluntarily backlinked “to” by other sites if you have a good authority site.
You can use mini sites for some specific purposes and get very good results. For example, if you are targeting other countries, you could easily rank well. If you then host your mini site in the country in which you are marketing, and SEO it for local search terms, you could get by with a mini site. But, we suggest you do a test with that approach as we are not comfortable with saying it is a guaranteed hit. Most calculations when it comes to SEO revolve around Google, of course, but you may also want to consider other search engines as alternatives. Yes, there is more traffic volume at Google, but you can specifically SEO for Bing and secondary search engines. You may want to consider this if you’re looking for a way to get traffic to your mini sites. Because all your marketing ventures are unique, it’s important to consider them all separately. Each business you have has unique characteristics that involve the entire spectrum ranging from marketing/advertising considerations to your own personal interests. With this in mind it would be completely unwise to imply that either authority or min sites were superior to the other.
