Towns urge state to boost mosquito-control efforts (Biz Journal)
Officials from eight towns in the Brockton area are urging the state to change
how it responds to the threat of Eastern equine encephalitis and other
mosquito-borne diseases, the Enterprise reports. Among the steps they request
are annual spraying and an acknowledgement that eastern Massachusetts is a
high-risk area for transmission of EEE. The letter to the state — signed by
officials in Bridgewater, Easton, Lakeville, Middleboro, Norton, Raynham,
Rehoboth and Taunton — comes after an elderly Raynham resident died of EEE in
September, and a woman visiting Raynham contracted the disease, the Enterprise
reports.
