Inground pool filter (cartridge) pressure too high?
I have a cartridge pool filter (Hayward) that is only 1 year old. The pressure gauge reads about 25 psi. The cartridges were filthy. I hosed them down well and reinstalled them. They are very clean now. I thought this had to be the reason, but when I turned the filter back on, the pressure was the same – 25 psi. I checked all the drains to make sure they were clear and they were.
What else can cause the pressure to be high?
How can I tell if the gauge is broken?
Also, when I use the Polaris pool cleaner, the pressure goes even higher than 25 psi. Is this normal?

If the cartridge is a year old, you need to get a new one. When you spray down the filter with a water hose you can only clean the outside of the filter. The inside still stays dirty. The filter looks like this /////////// and the inside of the fold holds the dirt. I need to replace my filter about every 9 months. My pool is open all year. You can check to see if all the valves are open. this will up the pressure. It is normal for the pressure to go up with any pool cleaner, you are restricting the water flow with the cleaner.
