can r410 be used in a r22 compressor?
I have a pentair pool heat pump heater. The compressor appears to be locked up. The unit says it is a r410 and the manufacturer agrees. The problem is to replace the compressor with the same compressor model is $1600. Here is the rub, the oem compressor says r22 on the compressor. I think that Pentair used a r22 compressor but used r410 in the system. Does that make sense? Can it be done?
I want to replace the compressor with another r22 = tonage compressor at a fraction of the cost, but I want to make sure I can recharge with r410 once I replace the compressor without causing other issues. I think I just need to drain/replace the oil.

I think……. is not something you want to hear when working on refrigeration equipment!
NO Pentair would not have filled a R22 compressor with R410A, it would not work. R22 and 410A are different refrigerants that operate at totally different pressures.
Do yourself a favor and call a licensed ref. mechanic. There is a reason why it takes so long to get your ref. license. If you don’t know what your doing you can really damage the equipment and possibly injure yourself in the process.
Do you own any tools to work on this equipment? If you plan on doing this yourself your gonna need…
