A Look At Cleaning Your Spa Filter
Plenty of people would love to add a hot tub or home spa to some area of their home. It’s something that everyone in the family could have fun with. You won’t find it to be much fun changing the filter though. If you use the tub a lot, then you’ll need to be prepared to change the filter frequently. Fortunately for you, there’s a better way for you to go about things. You could choose to clean your spa filter instead of replacing it. You’ll save a lot of money in the process, and you won’t be contributing extra garbage to the landfills.
First things first, you should disconnect the hot tub from its power source. I’m sure you already know that water and electricity don’t mix. Remove the filter from under the skimmer. This is one of the easiest things about the whole process. If the filter in your tub doesn’t come out this easily, you may need to pull out the instruction book and learn how the procedure should be done.
After you have removed the filter, you should find a soft scrub brush and use it to get rid of larger pieces of debris. It may surprise you how much you’ll find even though you keep your tub clean. You will probably find a lot of hair in the filter. It’s also important that you pay close attention to the seams of the filter. It’s important that you don’t damage the filter by scrubbing too hard.
If you have a pressure washer, you can use the lowest setting to wash the filter. A garden hose with a pressure nozzle attached to it is also an option. To ensure that you’ve removed everything, you need to keep hosing the filter off until the water comes off clear. You can use a broom stick stuck through the middle of the filter to keep it in place while you’re washing it.
You can use chlorine bleach and hot water to soak the filter and ensure that it’s clean. Not only will it help sanitize the filter, but it will also restore its white color.
You will need to rinse all of the bleach out of the filter after you’re done. You should never forget this step if you use alternative spa treatments like Baquacil. You should do your best to prevent any unwanted chemical reactions. Your filter will likely be almost as good as new after all of these steps.
