Do You Need to Replace or Just Clean Your Spa Filter?
If you had the chance to add a hot tub or spa to your home, wouldn’t you want to take advantage of it?. It’s something that everyone in the family could have fun with. However, it’s not much fun changing the filter. Filters aren’t cheap and they require frequent changing if you use the tub a lot. Fortunately for you, there’s a better way for you to go about things. So you can use it for an extended period of time, you have the option of cleaning your spa filter. You’ll be keeping extra waste out of the landfill, but it will also help save you a lot of money.
You should cut power to the hot tub initially. Water and electricity don’t mix, something you should undoubtedly know already. Remove the filter from under the skimmer. This should be a relatively simple thing to do. You may have to consult the instruction manual if you are unable to remove the filter easily.
You can use a soft scrub brush to remove larger pieces of debris from the filter. The amount of debris that you find can be very surprising. You will probably find a lot of hair in the filter. In addition, concentrate on the seams of the filter. Be thorough, but don’t scrub too hard or you’ll damage the filter.
If you have a pressure washer, you can use the lowest setting to wash the filter. A garden hose with a pressure nozzle attached to it is also an option. Until the water comes off clear, you should keep spraying the filter to make sure that it’s clean. Place a broom stick through the hole in the center of the filter to help hold it in place while you wash it.
You can use chlorine bleach and hot water to soak the filter and ensure that it’s clean. Not only will it help sanitize the filter, but it will also restore its white color.
After bleaching your filter, it’s important to thoroughly rinse all bleach from it. This is especially important if you use alternative spa treatments. You don’t want an accidental chemical reaction to occur. Your filter will likely be almost as good as new after all of these steps. Before you put it back into the spa, give it time to air dry.
