Mantras (Please tell me what you think of this poem.)?
On nights like this
I believe I am as inaccessible
as the shameless, snow white horses
paralyzed with self loathing and vanity
whizzing by the naked streets too fast
to spare the junkies even one laugh
passed out on beds of silk, materializing the trash
leftover from their fruitless quest for change
that brought them nothing but money
On nights like this
I believe I am immortal
as I ignore the screams of God
who is trapped inside a sun catcher
that was handed down through a friend
who preferred to see the moon
& eternalize his slumber
On nights like this
I believe I am present
only in the songs of the orphaned ghosts
blissfully unaware that they are alive
chanting mantras not meant to be heard by the world
indifferent to itself
excellent. gives me imagery of a wag (obviously you think so deep that you’re not one but it sticks in my mind). it presents the lower classes eternal struggle to climb the social ladder and the dismay you feel at your own actions. it’s not your typical love poem but i would see it as a “yearning for love” poem. full of insecurity and the morning after horrors that comewith it. i can really relate to it. jesus that invincible feeling doesn’t last long, does it?
