When To Plant Tomatoes – Learn To Maximize Taste And Yield!

Have you ever pondered why some tomatoes in a vegetable shop look fresh and juicy while others appear unappealing?

You are not the only person to observe and wonder about this. You will find out the reason for this if you read further!

Imagine yourself being able to provide high-quality, rich colored tomatoes to your family and even your friends. Wouldn’t it be better to be aware of when to plant tomatoes so that they can be grown in a monitored setting? No doubt, it would be very useful. You only need to consider the points given below:

The kind of tomatoes you want to plant

Which phase do you want the tomatoes to grow from

How to plant tomatoes depending on the type

What Variety of Tomato would you like to Plant?

Although there are hundreds of species of tomatoes, you’ll probably be surprised to know that there are really only two types. These are determinate and indeterminate tomatoes.

Determinates are :

Plants which die after the maturing of the tomatoes

Tomatoes with vines that grow to a fixed size

On the other hand indeterminates are:

Plants that blossom multiple times in one season

Tomatoes with vines that continue to grow as much as you allow them to

Each of these types can produce various species, so it’s up to you to know what you want or can accommodate, so you can plant your tomatoes right away.

Beginning a Vegetable Garden with Tomatoes or growing tomatoes in pots

Depending on how you want to start out with your tomatoes, your prep time may be longer or shorter than you expected. You might prefer to begin with tomato seeds. For that you will have to begin about 7 weeks before the frost date.

Temperatures below 55°F are not suitable for growing tomatoes. Begin with tomato seeds inside the house a couple of weeks prior to the last frost date. This will result in healthy tomatoes when you transplant them to your outdoor garden.

If you begin with seedlings, ensure that the leaves are not yellow. If they happen to be, then chances are you will end up with a dead tomato plant in no time.

Pointers on how to go about growing tomatoes indoors

A big part of knowing how to plant tomatoes involves knowing about the soil. You can plant your tomatoes in any type of soil. The only important thing is that they should get enough compost. Compost provides them with necessary nutrients to thrive. You also have to fertilize them to prevent diseases.

Tomatoes also grow well with plenty of sun. This is exactly why the cold season is really the worst time to start your tomato garden. Ensure that your tomato garden is established in the open air!

Do you want to know the correct timing for planting tomatoes?  It’s dead simple. Just remember, they hate the cold and they need plenty sunlight. All other things take a second place – the type of tomatoes, kind of soil, etc. Water, sunlight and temperate soil, it’s as simple as that!
