Brilliant beautiful lawn tractor owners would loose tie rods cause?
steering issues…gowdawful noise…poor response steering…? (I can move tie rods by hand with little effort.) If so, how do I fix it? Bushing/gear shows wear but still functional, kind of, will tightening tie rods solve the problem?
‘Tis Piper, the Cub, alas. No toe in or out. Batteries in camera are dead so it doesn’t help I know how to set the timer.
Play in tie rods at bolt points roughly 1/4 inch, rods are manufactured with a bend around frame parts.

Oh, noise is loud popping…source is bushing and gear (aparantly not meshing), some wear can be seen, but teeth are still good. Wonder if just replacing tie rod bolt will help.

We haven’t hit a stump or a rock now have we? If so see if both rods are still straight.
If in doubt take two straight edges 3-4 foot long and hold them against the outsides of the front tires and see where they point. Without help, this can become a game of Twister. I put my back against the tractor and reach behind with the straight edges. If your any good at multi-tasking, get a picture of yourself and post it. Now if they toe in (pigeon toed) a little like fifteen feet in front your OK. If it looks like an old girl friend I had, not so good. Toe out of any amount is no good.
I have no clue on the noise unless shimmy is making a sound like a tambourine from hell.
