Do I need foam walls behind the vinyl liner of my in ground swimming pool?
I had heard that we should have foam put between the steel walls and the new vinyl liner (even though there is no foam in there now), but the pool guy says that the foam is “only for pool guys who are too lazy to get in and clean the steel, it will wear the liner out quicker.” Any input?
WHEW! Time for a new pool guy. Using foam during the initial construction was due to pool construction. The foam will reduce the friction from the water against the walls and being soft will not be the source of it that eventually may tear your liner. Steel walls will one day corrode and stain your liner. With a layer of foam that is prevented. I am amazed to hear a pool guy argue to not put it on. Normally we have to try our hardest to convince you to do it. The cost of the foam runs about 90 bucks (cost) Glue (30) tape (10). Think of it as insurance.
